Sunshine Ministries provides a wonderful summer camp experience for our kids. Many of the children we serve have never been outside of the inner city or had the opportunity to experience the beauty of nature. They haven’t had the chance to run and play and “just be kids.” That’s what summer camp is all about!
Starting immediately after the city schools dismiss for the summer, we run three consecutive 3-week Day Camps for elementary age children. The children arrive at our downtown Youth & Family Center each morning at 8:30 and are given a breakfast snack and orange juice before boarding the vans for the one hour trip to Eagle Lodge. They are returned to the Youth Center by 4:30.
There is a well-planned and structured schedule for each day that includes organized games, arts and crafts, Bible study, small group sharing times, a nutritious lunch, rest time with a wholesome short video, special events like a Cowboy Carnival or a Luau, and swimming (the kid's favorite time of the day!).
One of the goals of our camp program is to fill each little heart and mind with special memories that will last a lifetime. Every summer the kids create a memory album full of pictures of their time at Eagle Lodge.
The teens also get to enjoy Eagle Lodge each summer with separate boys' and girls' overnight camps.
